Getting Started - A coffee stained roadmap

oh hey.

I’m going to be honest from the start: I don’t really know exactly what I want to build this business into. I just like making stuff. Knowing that something I’ve made is in someone else’s home, being used and appreciated, gives me a sense of pride and fulfillment.

I like making things that make music. I'm much better at it than I am at making music itself. Starting around 17 I got into cigar box guitars and within a year or so I had moved on to ukuleles and small acoustic guitars. And then I stopped. I quit taking woodworking seriously for a long time. My way of continuing to call myself a woodworker was by just turning bowl after bowl on a lathe after work when I was too tired to think about designing and building anything myself.

Unfortunately we lost my father last year to ALS. In his honor I've decided to really make a push again to get this business going again, and keep it going. Long term my goal is to focus on building both instruments and furniture. I simply can't chose one, as I like making both.

I bought a sawmill after recently losing dozens upon dozens of trees to hurricane Helene. For the next year or so, as the wood Ive been milling is left to dry I'll be focusing on smaller home decor type items that I can make with the assortment of wood I have currently. Also, smaller musical instruments such as lyres, and perhaps kalimbas/marimbas. During this time I'm designing furniture pieces both in my head, and on paper. I may post some of them as blog updates or on social media to see what people think of them. Fancy stuff. Think kumiko panel doors with relief carved, tambour paneled, hidden shelves.

Okay my fingers are tired. Ill do this more.
